If this were so, Europe\u2019s industrial sector would save up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sintef.no\/globalassets\/sintef-energi\/industrial-heat-pump-whitepaper\/2020-07-10-whitepaper-ihp-a4.pdf\">146 million tonnes<\/a> (Mt) of CO2 a year \u2013 24% of its emissions at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eea.europa.eu\/en\/analysis\/maps-and-charts\/greenhouse-gases-viewer-data-viewers\">today\u2019s levels<\/a>*, and more than the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/regions\/europe\/emissions\">annual emissions<\/a> of the Netherlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Paul Kenny, EHPA Director General <\/strong>said:<br>\u201cEurope needs competitive and sustainable industry &#8211; and large scale heat pumps are key. The technology is already delivering reliable heat, cost savings and affordable energy in manufacturing processes from paper to pasta, and this can and must increase. We urge the European Commission to put industrial heat pumps front and centre of its upcoming plans and policies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The European Commission\u2019s upcoming \u2018Clean Industrial Deal\u2019 will focus on boosting clean tech, and the \u2018Industrial Decarbonisation Accelerator Act\u2019 will look at how to speed up clean tech for energy intensive sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Industrial heat pumps, which can reach temperatures of up to 200\u00b0C, should be at the centre of both of these, as well as the European Commission\u2019s Electrification Action Plan and the Heating and Cooling strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The potential of industrial heat pumps will be discussed at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehpa.org\/events\/\">two events<\/a> organised by EHPA, a round table taking place today at our offices and a breakfast debate tomorrow in the EU Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehpa.org\/industrial-heat-pumps\/\">More on industrial heat pumps<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>* Based on <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eea.europa.eu\/en\/analysis\/maps-and-charts\/greenhouse-gases-viewer-data-viewers\"><em>the assumption<\/em><\/a><em> that European industry emits around 604 Mt CO2 per year.<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div data-wp-interactive=\"core\/file\" class=\"wp-block-file\"><object data-wp-bind--hidden=\"!state.hasPdfPreview\" hidden class=\"wp-block-file__embed\" data=\"https:\/\/www.ehpa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Industrial-HP-cards-Flyers-Landscape-1.pdf\" type=\"application\/pdf\" style=\"width:100%;height:600px\" aria-label=\"Embed of Industrial-HP-cards-Flyers-Landscape.\"><\/object><a id=\"wp-block-file--media-e4284d01-f687-41ee-84c1-64db4ca04439\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ehpa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Industrial-HP-cards-Flyers-Landscape-1.pdf\">Industrial-HP-cards-Flyers-Landscape<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehpa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Industrial-HP-cards-Flyers-Landscape-1.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button wp-element-button\" download aria-describedby=\"wp-block-file--media-e4284d01-f687-41ee-84c1-64db4ca04439\">Download<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EU industry can decarbonise by increasing its use of industrial heat pumps, figures shared by the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) show.
